Emmanuel is a project of the Dublin Diocesan Liturgical Resource Centre and promotes the use of Sacred Music in Secondary Schools. A unique collaboration of deaf and hearing students will raise their voices and hands on the stage of the Helix in March as part of the Emmanuel concert series. For the fourth year students from St Mary’s Girls School for the deaf in Cabra will take part in the concerts, involving over two thousand secondary school students from all over Dublin.
One of the advantages of this programme is that it offers students and teachers a liturgical music repertoire for school Masses including Graduations and the feedback is that those preparing liturgies are using the material they have come to know and love. During the year the students practice in their own schools. On the day of the performance in The Helix they come together to practice and attend workshops on a range of spiritual topics. This project is managed by Grainne Clinton of the Liturgy Resource Centre with the generous co-operation of other members of staff on the Clonliffe campus. Ian Callanan is the music director and conducts the orchestra and chorus on each night.
