Emmanuel – Celebrating Liturgical Music in Our Schools
One of the advantages of this programme is that it offers students and teachers a liturgical music repertoire for school Masses including Graduations and the feedback is that those preparing liturgies are using the material they have come to know and love. During the year the students practice in their own schools. On the day of the performance in The Helix they come together to practice and attend workshops on a range of spiritual topics. This project is managed by Grainne Clinton of the Liturgy Resource Centre with the generous co-operation of other members of staff on the Clonliffe campus. Ian Callanan is the music director and will conduct the orchestra and chorus on each night.

58 Schools and their choirs will participate in a spectacular evening of music from this programme. The orchestra, massed choirs will be conducted by Ian Callanan, a member of the Music Commission.

This year marks two special occasions for the Catholic Church; the Year of Faith and the 40th Anniversary of the founding of Trócaire and the music this year reflects both celebrations.
58 schools with over 2000 students (700 per night) from our Diocese will participate this year and if your students are participating here are two ideas for exploring some of the songs in R.E. classes. The14th song on the night is ‘Make me a Channel of your Peace’ and there are resources about St. Francis of Assisi here. The 15th song is ‘Who will Speak’ which is a Marty Haugen Song. The words at the beginning are of the late Archbishop Oscar Romero, El Salvador and there are Oscar Romero resources here.
