The Lost Son PowerPoint: Jesus told the Parable of the Lost Son to help us understand that we can receive the gift of forgiveness from God. In the Catholic Church the Sacrament of Reconciliation brings the gift of forgiveness and the grace to change. It is also called Confession. This means that we go to confession to tell God our sins, to say sorry and to promise to change our ways. The priest speaks the words of forgiveness in the name of Jesus.

What are the parts of the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation? Although this sacrament is often referred to as “confession”, it is so much more than that. We first feel contrition in our hearts, a sorrow for our sin and determination not to sin again, then we confess our sins to a priest. After our confession and an Act of Contrition, we receive absolution of our sins and a penance to repair the damage of sin and protect us from sinning again in the future.
