Checklist for consideration in the development of your child protection policy and procedures:
- Are all teachers, ancillary staff and members of the Board of Management familiar with the school’s Child Protection Policy?
- Are all teachers, ancillary staff and members of the Board of Management familiar with the DES Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures?
- What arrangements are in place to inform new members of staff of the policy and the Guidelines?
- Is the policy displayed prominently in the school or is there a notice displayed prominently stating that your school has a Child Protection Policy?
- Has the Child Protection Policy been circulated/made available to all school staff, teaching and non-teaching?
- Has the policy been circulated/made available to all parents or guardians at the time of enrolment?
- Is the name of the Designated Liaison Person (DLP) and the Deputy DLP displayed prominently in the school?
- Has the DLP and the Deputy DLP attended training?
- How does the DLP inform staff of the key elements of this training?
- What other policies and procedures need to be reviewed in relation to child protection?
- Is child protection an item on the agenda of Board of Management meetings?
- Does the Board of Management make use of Garda Vetting as part of recruitment?
- Does the Board of Management have a list of all groups/individuals using school property?
- Does the Board of Management check that these groups/individuals have their own Child Protection Policy?
