November 11th, 2012

Dear R.E. Teacher,

I hope you all survived the first week back and remember it’s only six weeks til Christmas. It’s good to hear many of you have already made use of the November Remembrance Resources on our website and I’ve uploaded plenty of new resources for the week ahead:

November 11th: Gospel: Mark 12:38-44: This resource links with Mark’s Gospel today telling the story of the Widow’s Generosity. It would make a good first R.E. class of the week.

November 13th: Diwali: Tuesday is the Hindu festival of Diwali and on the website you can find a Diwali PowerPoint and other resources/links. There are also likely to be news reports etc of the festival available to watch online.

November 14th: Feast Day of St. Laurence O’Toole: Wednesday is the Feast Day of St. Luarence O’Toole former Archbishop of Dublin, native of Castledermot and Patron Saint of the Dublin Diocese. I have uploaded a PowerPoint about the life of St. Laurence and also a Word document containing various classroom resources and worksheets.

Good News to Go: Good News To Go! is an initiative of the Office of Evangelisation and Ecumenism and is for young peope aged 16+. Fr. Bryan Shortall -OFM CAP – is a Capuchin Priest, Church St, Dublin and he will lead the Catechesis at Good News to Go! next Wednesday 14th November @ 730 – Clarendon St, D2.- He will speak on St. Laurence O Toole, Service and the Gospel. Fr. Bryan – blogs, tweets, Facebooks – so he is good to follow! Ian Callanan will lead music.

Olympics & R.E.: Katie Taylor has a new book out called Katie Taylor – My Olympic Dream and I’ve added a link to an extract from it ‘God, Gold & Me’ which was printed in the Irish Times on Monday.

Kind regards,

Gary
