January 11th, 2013

Dear R.E. Teacher / Chaplain,

I hope you all had a good first week back and below are plenty of resources and ideas to keep you going next week. Just click on the links and let me know how you get on.

January 15th: Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Next Tuesday is the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. a nd in the U.S. it is marked by a federal holiday on the third Monday of January each year. I have created a slide show video with quotes from Martin Luther King and set it to the U2 song Pride (In the Name of Love) which references the day he was shot. Also uploaded on the website are two PowerPoint’s and a word document resource which can be used with any R.E. class but it does have clear links with Section F of the Junior Certificate Syllabus ‘The Moral Challenge’ Part 4‘ Religious Morality in Action.

These resources can also be used with Senior Cycle classes following the calendar approach to R.E.

Lessons during this week can begin with the Martin Luther King resources and be followed by students exploring the ‘Heroes’PowerPoint and creating their own page about ‘My Hero’ on the My Hero website.
