December 10th, 2012

Dear R.E. Teacher / Chaplain,

With just 10 days left of term I have uploaded plenty of resources & links on our website to keep both you and your students busy and in the festive spirit. Click on the links below to view the resources and let me know how you get on.

December Resources:

Advent Resources: I have made a Christmas video to accompany the Advent Prayer Service. The video features the Christmas version of 1 Corinthians 13 and you may also find this useful with assemblies, staff and adult groups. If you don’t have access to YouTube you can watch a version of the video on Animoto which features Gabrielle Aplin’s cover of The Power of Love. The Advent YouTube Playlist now contains 35 videos to use with R.E. classes.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary: Saturday was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and on our website you can downlaod resources and view two videos from the wonderful Busted Halo website. Busted Halo is a vast Catholic magazine site and well worth visiting on a regular basis.

Hanukkah: December 8th marked the beginning of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah which ends on December 16th. On the Hannukah page on the website you will find links to two more excellent websites for R.E. teachers: Huffington Post & TrueTube. There are also plenty of Judaism resources in the World Religions section of our website. I believe that the most effective way of teaching world religions is by focusing on the celebration of the various religious festivals as they fall in the calendar each year.

Human Rights Day: December 10th is Human Rights Day and on the website you will find an Introduction to Human Rights senior cycle resource kindly shared by Claire Considine. There is also a resource on human rights & the Beatitudes and several links to other resources.

Good News To Go: “What must we do” asked the Disciples – words from Luke’s Gospel Week 3 Advent – Noelle Fitzpatrick from Magis Ireland will lead the Catechesis at next weeks Good News to Go – Brenda Drumm will reflect on “what we must do” – and the good news story behind TwitterxmasSingle 2012– on sale now- Faith in Action is Good News to Go – please do support next Thur 13, @ 7:30 St. Teresa’s Clarendon St, D2.

Catholic Charities as always are to the forefront in helping the homeless and people in poverty this Christmas and you might take the opportunity to highlight the positive work inspired by Gospel values that the charities below do every day:

Crosscare : Capuchin Day Centre : Focus Ireland : Peter McVerry Trust : The Society of St. Vincent de Paul

With every blessing this Christmas,

Gary
