Catholic Schools Partnership 10 FAQs on Catholic Primary Schools

CSP – Catholic Primary Schools- Looking to the Future. Schools and their future require diligent reflection and consideration by all parties involved. Change in educational policy needs to be thought through carefully as the contribution of good schools to the development of social capital and the common good is inestimable. The Catholic Schools Partnership, an umbrella group providing support for all of the partners in Catholic schools in the Republic of Ireland, has reflected on many of the key issues facing all of the stakeholders in Irish primary schools at this time and presents this paper to parents and students, to public representatives and civil servants, to patrons and trustees, to school staffs and management, to priests and parishes and, indeed, to all of our fellow citizens, as we look to a shared future in our democratic society.

CSP – A Process: The CSP is pleased to present A process for understanding, supporting and taking ownership of the characteristic spirit in a Catholic school. We hope that this process will enable schools to reflect on their life and ethos through affirming the good work that is characteristic of so many schools and through developing new ways of giving expression to their Catholic identity.

The development of this process has been a work of partnership over two years. The CSP collaborated with parents, pupils, teachers, principals, boards of management and parish pastoral councils in looking to the future of Catholic schools. One outcome of this collaboration was the call to enable schools to reflect on their Catholic ethos at a more local level. The process detailed in this document is the response of the CSP to this request. The process draws on the wisdom, experience and expertise of many people involved in and committed to Catholic schools.

This process is a resource that will support all of us who are committed to the future of Catholic primary schools in the Republic of Ireland.

Masters in Christian Leadership in Education  MA Prog Christian Leadership in Education

Mary Immaculate College, Limerick and Marino Institute of Education, Dublin  offer a Masters in Christian Leadership in Education taught on both campuses.

The MA in Christian Leadership in Education programme is a two-year, part-time course designed to equip teachers, deputy principals and principals at both primary and second-level with the skills and knowledge they need to exercise competent leadership in faith-based education. It is open to all who aspire to take on leadership and management roles in education. Participants will study the principles of Christian educational leadership, appreciate the theological vision that underpins the educational enterprise, and discover how to implement the Christian ethos within the learning community. The location of this programme on the east coast will complement its provision on the west coast, and is intended to make this programme available to people from across the country.

This joint enterprise reflects the desire to establish a nationally recognised formal qualification for those interested in leadership within faith-based schools. As future leaders participants will develop the ability to understand, communicate and work within an increasingly pluralist and secular society and understand how faith-based education provides a unique contribution to the personal development of students and teachers within the context of the social, technical and cultural needs of our increasingly diverse Irish society’.
