Dear friends,

I and my religious education colleagues at the DCU Institute of Education are pleased to announce a research survey, now live, on religious education CPD.

The research study, ‘CPD and RE: An empirical enquiry into the provision of CPD for RE teachers at primary and post-primary levels in the Republic of Ireland’ is being conducted by researchers from the School of Human Development, Institute of Education, Dublin City University.  I am the principal investigator and the research team are Dr. Sandra Cullen, Anne Hession, Dr. Cora O’Farrell and Dr. Bernadette Sweetman.

The website is at https://sites.google.com/dcu.ie/cpdandre  and we would appreciate any assistance you may offer in publicising this significant research study, bringing it to the attention of those in your network who are engaged in religious education. The purpose of the survey is to ask those who teach religion at primary and post-primary levels about the provision of CPD for teachers of religious education and to look to possible future provision, acknowledging and building on that which is already provided.

With a great number of issues in discussion around the teaching of religion in Ireland today, it is important to hear the voice of the teachers themselves as to their professional needs. We hope that teachers will value the opportunity to contribute to this nationwide study of CPD needs specific to religious education. This is an area, you will understand, that has been under-researched. We are conscious that we are near the end of the school year and hope that this brief survey (which might take 15 minutes to complete) will not take too much time or effort to complete. The value in hearing from teacher themselves cannot be underestimated.

If you have already received this email thank you for your participation and support. The survey will remain open for a short period up to 26th May only.

Please be in touch if you have any questions.

Gareth.
